Love these people! Always a great rental experience. I have been using them for years!! I see other negative reviews and can only assume these reviewers don’t understand island jeeps nor do they understand the differences in available resources on an island such as STJ. Electricity is 5 Times the cost of the mainland and water is scarce, so when your vehicle is returned filthy it is very costly for them to clean. Also these jeeps like all rented jeeps on the island take a beating from the renters themselves who are unfamiliar with the terrain and have frequent accidents. This isnt Hertz or Avis... you are on an island.......Next time take a look around... the rented jeeps are the nicest vehicles on the island. None of the residents drive vehicles as nice.... so please pay attention....I have not only rented from L&L for years but they also stored and took care of my island vehicle when I became a resident for a few years. Great service! Honest people!
STAY AWAY!!! This place will rip you off. We rented a nice Jeep from L&L at their location near the airport in St. Thomas. We then drove to St.John for a weeklong (and marvelous) beach vacation. The problem began when we returned the Jeep in St. Thomas. The general manager said we had "excessive" sand in the vehicle, and charged $150!!! for special cleaning. This despite the fact that we had shaken the mats out and done what we could to be respectful of the vehicle. Of course, there was sand, but nothing that a reasonable person would call excessive after a week at the beach. A 10-minute vacuuming would solve the problem. But this general manager was anything but reasonable. She was rude and dismissive and thoroughly unprofessional. We ended up paying $85 just to end the agony, but then she refused to shuttle us to the airport. Check Yelp!, others have had problems with this den of thieves. I guess they see profit in ripping off tourists. My advice: STAY AWAY!!
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!
We had to scramble for a rental due to a change in flights so we called L&L Jeeps. They were able to provide a Jeep, but requested an additional $50 charge because we had to pick it up 'after hours'.
The jeep we received was in HORRIBLE condition. Bad breaks. Check Engine light was always on, but we were told to 'not pay attention to it - it will go off'. Guess what - it never did in the whole 7 days. Tire pressure indicator was also on - possibly due to the ripped tire (see pictures). Lots of rust in the car everywhere. Parking lot is very dark - we could not possibly check the car very clearly, so as soon as I could I took the pictures of all problems that I found so that I could prove car's condition upon return.
Very rude customer service. Stay away!
We booked with Sunshine and they lost our reservation but managed to salvage themselves by hooking us up with L&L. I know people say you will get yelled at when you return your vehicle, but if you just don't return it with the beach in your car, you'll be fine. To be fair, we watched someone get yelled at but they clearly drove the Jeep to Lameshur Bay (a no no), tried to rub the mud off the exterior (made it worse) and brought back a pound of sand. We returned it in great condition and they were awesome. This is St. John local, not Avis. Be respectful to them and their property and you'll be cool.
We were rented a haggard Jeep from L&L. The condition didn't bother us until we were held responsible for damages we did not incur to the Jeep. In our rental contract we had walked around the vehicle notating the condition and the many blemishes it had. When we returned the vehicle we were immediately confronted about the damages on the Jeep. Where the contract noted a scratch there was a dent. Same dent as when we picked up the Jeep but contract notes it as a scratch, so they held us responsible! Then the owner told us we had taken off the rag top. We did not. Telling us we had broke the corners of the rag top and it would have to be replaced. TOTAL THIEVERY. We were charged $500. "A deal." the owner said. Rentals are tight on St. John if you have to rent from them video the condition the vehicle is in with a staff member in the footage. Better yet, plan ahead and do not rent from L&L. The insurance they offer is $1000.-1500. deductible so any charges below that they will stick to your card. They have it and will charge you. Total Tourist Targeted Trap .
